DESCRIPTION:\nPlease join us for our next meeting, Thursday September 3, 2026.  Lunch will be served beginning at 11:30am.\n \nOur speaker will be Travis Smith, on the topic of Special Needs Planning.\n \nTravis Smith – Travis Smith is an attorney at Holmes, Holmes & Neisent, PLLC. Smith has spent the last 19 years at the Department of Human Services, representing the agency in a wide variety of matters, primarily Medicaid Long-Term Care and Special Needs eligibility. He has litigated Medicaid issues in Oklahoma district and appellate courts, the Western District of Oklahoma, the Tenth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.\n \nSmith has made 200 presentations to the public, including 70 for CLE credit, with 50 of those about Medicaid Long-Term care. His article about Medicaid was published in the Journal of the Oklahoma Bar Association.\n \nPrior to the Department of Human Services Smith worked for Legal Aid of Western Oklahoma, where he represented low-income clients in public benefit cases – primarily Supplemental Security Income applications for applicants with mental health issues.\n \nSmith received his Bachelor of Accountancy and JD from the University of Oklahoma. He has lived in the metro area with his wife since 1974.\n \nSmith’s practice will focus on issues involving Medicaid eligibility for nursing home care and at home care, estate planning for beneficiaries with disabilities, and special needs trusts for Medicaid and/or SSI eligibility.\n
